India's proposed bill: Tax department will monitor digital activities, including cryptocurrency holdings, from April 2026

According to The Defiant, under the "2025 Income Tax Act," the Indian Income Tax Department will be granted the authority to monitor individual digital activities starting from April 1, 2026, including social media accounts, emails, and online financial transactions. This new power is aimed at enhancing the department's ability to detect tax evasion and undisclosed assets (including holdings of cryptocurrencies).
