HPE announces $1.3 billion acquisition of supercomputer maker Cray

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced the acquisition of Cray, an iconic supercomputer manufacturer with a rich history in the computing industry. The deal is said to be worth $1.3 billion.
Supercomputers have long been the mainstay of military and intelligence agencies, used for everything from cracking codes to designing nuclear weapons. They also have many civilian uses, such as predicting the weather, creating new drugs and simulating the impact of crashes on car design, among others.

John Elways, senior strategic planner at Hewlett Packard Enterprise's US headquarters, said, "The answers to some of society's most pressing challenges are buried in vast amounts of data. Only by processing and analyzing this data can we unlock key insights into medicine, climate change, space, and more." The answer to the challenge."
"Cray is a global technology leader in supercomputing and shares our deep commitment to innovation. By combining our world-class team and technology, we have the opportunity to advance the next generation of high-performance computing and transform the way people live and work." Play an important role."

Thankfully, over time, these upcoming exascale supercomputers will likely be freed from military installations and gain new insights from data. According to HPE, the acquisition of Cray was primarily intended to help it gain an edge in the hardware needed for AI research and training larger neural networks.
